Description

The remains of the Manor House date back to the 15th century and possibly earlier. The structure is built from coursed limestone rubble and dressed limestone. Notable features include an arched doorway with two orders and a 4-centred head located to the left of the surviving wall, as well as a shaped band at the first floor level. There are also traces of extensive foundations surrounding the remaining wall. The manor was owned by the Percy family until 1555, when it was transferred to Sir Henry Gate. It is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, number 494. The information is documented in The Victoria History of the Counties of England: York, North Riding, Volume II, page 485.
