Description
The Church of Saint Mary and All Saints, built in 1852 to designs by Mallinson and Healey, is located in Cundall with Leckby, North Yorkshire. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone and features a graduated Westmorland slate roof. The church has a west tower with three stages, a three-bay nave that includes a south porch, and a lower two-bay chancel with a vestry on the north side. The architectural style is plain Decorated.
The tower is characterized by diagonal buttresses, large belfry windows, a stair tower on the south side, a west clock, and a crenellated parapet. The porch has a steeply-pitched roof and a moulded arch, with an inner door that features strap hinges. The nave and chancel have two and three-light windows, along with offset buttresses and gable copings.
Inside, the church has been largely refurbished in the early 20th century but still retains the original wooden altar rail with slender balusters. There is an Anglo-Saxon cross shaft in the tower, carved with animals and dating to around AD 800. Additionally, a keystone in the east wall of the tower's middle floor bears the inscription 'BK PB' and is dated 1731. The clock mechanism is dated 1875.
