Description
The Gothic folly at the north end of the gardens of Ribston Hall is a mock ruin dating from the mid-19th century, possibly constructed using medieval materials. It is built from coursed, squared gritstone and features a double-chamfered Gothic arch with a hood-mould and head-stops, flanked by gabled buttresses. The archway may have been created using stone salvaged from the old church at Hunsingore, which was demolished by Mr. Joseph Dent in 1867. This archway is stylistically similar to the one in the garden wall that leads into the Pinetum, which was laid out after 1857 by Joseph Dent. The buttresses closely resemble those on the south side of the chapel of St. Andrew, which also appear to be from the 19th century. Additionally, there are several pieces of carved stone, including two stone fonts, located on the ground to the east of the structure.
