GREAT RIBSTON WITH WALSHFORD RIBSTON PARK Gothic folly at north end of gardens, Ribston Hall

GV II

Mock ruin or Gothic folly. Mid C19, possibly using medieval materials. Coursed, squared gritstone. Double-chamfered Gothic arch with hood-mould and head-stops, flanked by gabled buttresses. The archway may have been built using stone removed from Hunsingore old church when it was demolished by Mr. Joseph Dent in 1867. It is similar in style to the archway in the garden wall (q.v.) which leads into the Pinetum, laid out after 1857 by Joseph Dent. The buttresses are very similar in character to those on the south side of the chapel of St. Andrew (q.v.) which appear to be C19. There are many pieces of carved stone, including 2 stone fonts, on the ground on the east side of the structure.
