Description
The schoolroom at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, built in 1846 and altered in 1903, is a single-storey structure made of rubble with a squared rubble plinth and a slate roof. It features two chimneys and three windows, each with chamfered stone surrounds and moulded labels, fitted with casements. Above the central window is a stone panel with raised lettering that was brought from a previous building on Mill Brow, stating "HEN: WILSON FUNDATOR ANO DM0 1628". The gable ends have large boards, and under the right-hand gable is a panel with raised lettering from the 19th century that reads "FREE GRAMMAR SCHOOL". The girls' and boys' entrances at the gable ends are embattled and were added in 1903, with the date visible on the girls' entrance. The later addition has been significantly altered.
