Description

These are a row of four houses, dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, built of red sandstone ashlar in Boroughgate, Appleby in Westmorland. The houses exhibit a simple, symmetrical design. Each house has a panelled door with a small fanlight, set within a plain stone doorcase. Number 51 features a central doorway accentuated by a pediment, dentils, and pilasters. Number 49 has two windows on each storey, while the other houses have two windows on the ground floor and three on the first floor. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within plain stone frames.
