Description
Carleton Hall, which serves as the Cumbria Police Headquarters, is an early 18th-century building with late 18th-century alterations. It was restored in 1859 and partly rebuilt in 1937. The structure is made of red and grey ashlar and has two storeys with slate roofs. The central curved bow features three windows on each floor, with two additional windows on either side of the bow. There are also flanking wings, each containing three windows. All windows are 12-paned sashes. Inside, the hall boasts impressive Adam-type plaster ceilings, a staircase with an open string and three turned balusters for each tread, and a fireplace. The garden front has a central range of six windows, flanked by window bays.
