Description

Cockell House dates to circa 1660, with additions made in the mid-18th century. The house is constructed of stuccoed stone, and is two storeys in height. The entrance is distinguished by two Doric columns, a three-quarter height, supporting a block entablature and an open pediment, above a semi-circular headed fanlight and a six-panelled door. Two sash windows are located on the ground floor, and three above. The return side to the right has two sixteen-pane sash windows on each floor, and a staircase window featuring stone mullions and transoms. The interior is noteworthy for its 17th-century staircase, doors, and stone fireplaces. The house was tenanted around 1820 by John McAdam, the road surveyor.
