Description
The Walton tomb and railed enclosure, located to the south of the chancel of St Michael's Church, is a Grade II listed structure. The tomb features inscriptions on its hipped top commemorating members of the Walton family, with dates of 1807 and 1862. It is made of sandstone and has elaborately carved panels on each side, positioned between pilasters that are decorated with classical urns in low relief. The north side depicts Christ with an angel, while the south side shows a body on a bed surrounded by mourners with death in attendance. The square railed enclosure has diagonally-set pointed standards topped with urn finials on the corner posts.
