Description

The monument to railway contractors is located in St Andrew's churchyard on the north side of the church and dates from 1846. This Victorian Gothic structure commemorates the construction of the Lancaster to Carlisle Railway. It is made of stone and features two rectangular piers with pointed arched panels that include inscriptions. The piers are topped with crocketted finials. Between the piers, there is Perpendicular Gothic tracery that is cusped, with an ogee arch above that culminates in a foliated finial.
