Description

The footbridge at Appleby Station is a mid to late 19th century iron structure that was relocated to Appleby West in 1901 from Mansfield Station. The span of the bridge was reconstructed after it sustained damage in 1902. It features fluted cast iron columns with acanthus capitals that support the stairways. The footbridge itself is a segmental arched wrought iron lattice design. Appleby Station was formerly known as Appleby West and is part of the Settle-Carlisle section of the Midland Railway, which opened in 1876.
