Description
Brigham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Bridget in Brigham, Cumbria. It is prominently placed off the churchyard path near the church entrance. The memorial features a rustic, red Aberdeen granite cross atop a short shaft, which stands on a large rough-hewn tapering plinth that has a polished inscription face on the front, along with a similar base block below. The memorial is enclosed within a five-sided red Aberdeen granite kerb area, which is accessible by three steps. The plinth displays inscriptions in incised and white-infilled lettering.
The inscriptions read: "IN HONOUR OF THE MEN OF BRIGHAM PARISH/ WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES)/ “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS/ LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS”// 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."
