Description
Union Hall is an elaborate Victorian building from 1814, partly used for civic offices. It stands three storeys tall and is stuccoed, featuring rusticated quoins and a heavy cornice supported by brackets. The end pediment and gables are decorated with shields and festoons, topped with panelled chimney stacks. The building is seven bays wide with an irregular design, showcasing sash windows set in moulded architraves with keystones, some of which have cornices. A Tuscan columned doorway features a round arch and a broken pediment. There is also a larger doorway with a round arch, flanked by freestanding Composite columns on attached pedestals, which support a frieze and cornice. The return side of the building is No 7 Lowther Street. Union Hall forms a group with Nos 7 to 17 (consecutive) Lowther Street.
