Description
Abbey Court is a pair of houses that have been converted into one shop, built in the early 19th century with later alterations. The structure features Flemish bond brickwork with light headers, set on a chamfered plinth, with all dressings made of painted stone. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and includes a rebuilt ridge stack and a partly reduced end brick chimney stack. The building has two storeys and three unequal bays. The central entrance features a panelled door and a fanlight in a stone surround with imposts and a keystone. On either side of the entrance are 20th-century casement shop windows set in brick reveals with stone sills and hoodmoulds. To the left, there is another panelled door with a radial fanlight in a surround similar to the main entrance. Above the shop windows are sash windows, which have margin glazing bars, while the left window features full glazing bars. The interiors have not been inspected. A photograph from the 1930s in the Carlisle Museum collection shows the building as two separate houses.
