Description

The Lighthouse, located on the South Pier of Maryport Harbour, was built around 1846 and is likely the oldest cast iron lighthouse in Britain. It stands approximately 36 feet high on a tall plinth made of rusticated stone. Each face of the plinth features a flattened Tudor arched panel, with one panel being open, and it is topped by a cornice. Above this, an octagonal column with a stepped splayed base supports an octagonal lantern, which has a flat capping, finial, and vane. The lighthouse is included mainly for its historic interest as a precursor to a specific type of lighthouse.
