Description
Orchard House Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are a mid-18th century farmhouse and a barn dated 1786, with the name John Gunson inscribed above the entrance. The farmhouse features painted render over brick, a chamfered plinth, and V-jointed quoins. It has a plain stone cornice that incorporates lintels from blocked upper floor windows. The roof is made of graduated greenslate, with coped gables and kneelers, and there are brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and originally had six bays, but now has three. The barn, which has a lower roofline, is also two storeys and has three bays on the right side. There is a top glazed panelled door to the right, framed by a painted architrave. The farmhouse has narrow sash windows with glazing bars set in painted stone architraves, and three blocked windows on the upper floor that are covered by render. The barn features plank doors on the ground floor, along with a blocked loft and blocked slit vents. There are 20th-century brick buttresses and repairs to the wall.
