Description
No. 1 Earl Street is a house dating from the 1830s. It features Flemish bond brickwork with light headers, set on a chamfered plinth with painted stone dressings and a sill band. The roof is covered with graduated greenslate, and there is a rebuilt end brick chimney stack. The building is two storeys high and has two bays. The entrance is an off-centre 20th-century door, which is topped by a radial fanlight in a stone surround that includes false imposts and a keystone. There is a right through-passage with a plank door in a stone surround. The sash windows are set in brick reveals with flat brick arches, and the ground floor window has stone shutter bracket blocks. The interior has not been inspected. This street was developed on land that belonged to the Earl of Lonsdale, which is how it got its name.
