Description

This is a table tomb located in Stanwix Churchyard, dating from 1876. It is made of calciferous sandstone ashlar and features a stepped plinth topped by a tomb with cusped openings on all sides. The inscription on the top commemorates George Head Head of Rickerby, a banker from Carlisle, who died on 12 December 1876 at the age of 81. It also mentions his first wife, Maria Woodrouffe Head, who died in 1854, and his second wife, Sarah Head, who passed away on 20 April 1876. The tomb is situated on the south ditch of the Roman Fort.
