Description
The gateway, wall, and lamp brackets at the south entrance to Stanwix House date from the early 19th century. They are made of red sandstone and feature cast-iron lamp brackets. The structure includes four central octagonal piers, each with recessed trefoil-headed panels, designed to accommodate central double gates and flanking pedestrian gates. A low quadrant wall connects to squared piers that are topped with fluted cast-iron columns and three-pronged scrolled lamp brackets, although the oil lamps are now missing. The design also includes speared railings and gates with a quatrefoil lock band, but the left pedestrian gate is missing. This structure is noted for its group value.
