Description
The barn and byres adjoining Mill Grove date from the late 17th century or early 18th century and incorporate a medieval plinth and end wall. The structure is built from large blocks of red sandstone sourced from the nearby Holme Cultram Abbey, resting partly on a chamfered plinth. It features a Welsh slate roof with coped gables and is a long single-storey building. The central sliding plank cart door is a notable feature, along with a blocked entrance to the left and slit vents above. The left end wall includes the lower part of an adjoining Abbey building. There are right-angled extensions at the front and extensions to the rear, which are not of particular interest. The barn is listed partly for its group value with Mill Grove.
