Description
Thackthwaite Hall is a farmhouse and adjoining former house, now serving as a byre. The former house is dated over the end door as W.B.M.B. 1700, while the mid 18th century new house features painted rubble walls that are partly roughcast, topped with a graduated greenslate roof that has been repaired. It includes brick chimney stacks. The 2-storey, 2-bay 18th century house (originally 3 bays) has an eaves cornice and a parapet. The former house, which has 3 bays on the left, is now a byre under a renewed common roof. The current 18th century farmhouse has a plank door that is covered by a 20th century porch. The sash windows are set in painted stone surrounds, with some blocked. The ground floor windows have chamfered surrounds, and there is a smaller fire window to the right. The former house features 2-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows, most of which are blocked or partly-blocked. The end door has a chamfered stone surround beneath a dated and inscribed lintel. The rear extension of the 18th century portion has sash windows in painted stone surrounds.
