Description

The Porch House is a house dating from the Early 17th century, though it was extensively rebuilt in 1788 and repaired in 1911. The house is constructed of uncoursed ironstone rubble with ironstone ashlar detailing, and has a tile roof with a large brick ridge stack on a stone base. It has a four-unit plan and two storeys with an attic, featuring a five-window front. A central 17th-century plank door sits within a moulded, stop-chamfered wood surround, recessed within a two-storey porch with a round-headed arched doorway featuring imposts and a keyblock, a moulded string course, a 2-light casement on the first floor, a 12-pane leaded window within the stone-coped gable above, and timber lintels to both. On the ground floor, there is a 3-light casement window to the left of the porch and two similar windows to the right, all with timber lintels. The first floor features a mullion and transom window, and 2-light casements flanking the porch, also with timber lintels. A datestone between the first-floor windows on the right is inscribed "1788/LK". Brick nogged eaves and hipped dormers either side of the porch, each with small-pane leaded casements and some crown glass, are present. Stone-coped gables with kneelers top the building. A datestone in the right gable reads "LK/1788", and another below says "Rebuilt/1911/CVK". A long wing extends to the rear of the house. Inside, the house has agee-stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a 4-centred arched stone fireplace with cut spandrels, some early 17th-century panelling, and stone-flagged floors.
