Description
43-49 The Drapery is a building from 1894, designed in a modified Italianate style. It is constructed of ashlar and consists of four storeys topped with a bracketed cornice and a parapet. The facade features five sash windows without glazing bars, with segmental arches on the first and second floors. The second floor includes pediments supported by consoles and stone balconettes also on consoles. The first floor has pilasters and segmentally arched panels between the windows, with a continuous cornice that breaks forward at the second floor balconettes. The third floor has round-headed windows, arranged in two and three light configurations, with a moulded sill band. The ground floor has modern shops with high fascia. Number 49 has three windows on the first floor, which are four lights with segmental arches and slim pilasters. This building is included for its group value with Nos 41 to 49.
