Description

41 The Drapery is a Grade II listed building, formerly known as the premises occupied by the National Provincial Bank and previously the Northamptonshire Union Bank. It was built in 1841 by E.F. Law. The building features an ashlar Neoclassical front with a tall Composite order on the upper floors. It has a basement and three storeys, with a balustraded roof parapet on either side of a pediment supported by four fluted half columns. The channelled ground floor includes doorways at either end and three sash windows in a projecting centre. The upper floors are adorned with end pilasters and five sash windows surrounded by eared architraves, a central window frieze, and a cornice on consoles. The entablature features a dentil cornice and a tympanum with a high relief of a phoenix, logs, and flames. Nos 41 to 49 (odd) form a group.
