Description
The Flats is a former fireman's quarters for the Ordnance Depot, part of the former Weedon Barracks, now converted into council flats. It was built in the mid to late 19th century and features red brick and cast-iron construction with a slate roof and brick ridge stacks. The building is two storeys tall and has an 18-bay range. The roof of the front elevation to the south extends over an iron-framed balcony and verandah that spans the ground and first floors, supported by brick piers, which likely replaced the original iron supports. An iron-framed staircase leads to the balcony from either end. The ground and first floors have part-glazed doors with overlights and sash windows with gauged brick lintels, with some doors having been replaced. Originally, there were six flats on each floor, but this has been altered to three flats on each floor. The interiors have not been inspected.
