Description
Crystal House is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and a plinth, topped with a slate roof. The original layout was a three-unit plan, and the building stands two storeys high with a cellar and attic. The façade features an eight-window range of casements that have moulded stone architraves and keyblocks. The ground floor has been refronted in the late 18th century, showcasing three casements beneath gauged-brick arches. To the right of the centre, there is a 20th-century door that is framed by a moulded stone architrave with a keyblock. A flat ashlar string course runs between the floors, and the building has rusticated quoins, ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, and brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The rear of the house is similar but includes a 20th-century extension. Inside, the room to the left of the entrance features an open fireplace with a bressumer, while the room to the right has 18th-century fielded panelling and a matching fireplace surround. The staircase, likely from the early 18th century, has a dogleg quarter turn and turned balusters.
