Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade I listed building located on the north side of The Green in Kingsthorpe. It features remnants of original windows from a late Saxon or early Norman church. The late Norman nave, consisting of three bays, dates back to around 1170. The chancel was partly constructed around 1220, with chapels extended eastwards and a crypt built in the late 14th century. The south chapel was in existence around 1180, and the windows are primarily from the mid-14th century. An early 15th-century west steeple adds to its architectural significance. The church underwent restoration in 1851, with the south porch rebuilt in 1863. Inside, there are some poppy-head stalls, a Jacobean pulpit, and fine carved wall monuments, including one to Edward Reynolds from 1698 and another to the Morgan family from 1680.
