Description

The building at 5 Mercer's Row dates to 1901 and is constructed in the German Renaissance style. It is built of red brick with stone dressings, topped by a Westmorland slate roof with a gable. The building is three storeys high with an attic. Architectural features include stone angle buttresses, horizontal floor and sill bands, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. Modern shop windows occupy the ground floor. The upper floors each feature four casement windows, with the first floor windows being round-headed. The gable contains a pair of attic windows, and a balcony with wrought iron railings is also present. The building forms part of a group with numbers 3 to 6 on Mercer's Row.
