Description

Danetre Hospital Administration Offices, formerly a workhouse building, was constructed in 1838 as a Poor Law Institution. It is built from Flemish bond red brick and features a hipped slate roof with moulded eaves. The building has an H-shaped plan with a central entrance located on the outer side of the east wing. It is designed in the Georgian style and has two storeys.

The façade displays a window arrangement of 10:3:3:3:7, with the central nine bays protruding and the three central bays featuring a pediment that breaks forward. All windows are 12-pane sashes with horns and stone sills, with flat brick arches on the ground floor and window heads under an eaves entablature on the first floor. The central doorway is topped with a small canopy on brackets, a rectangular overlight, and a flush panel door. The central lateral and back ranges also contain sash windows, and on the west (rear) elevation, the two end bays of the back range project forward with pedimental gables. There are minor 20th-century brick additions at the back of the ranges.

The interior has not been inspected. Originally accommodating 230 inmates, the building has been repurposed as hospital administration offices, while the main hospital buildings from the 20th century are located to the west.
