Description
Appletree Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with squared quoins, and features a slate and tile roof with brick stacks. The building is arranged in a U-plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, with three bays.
The doorway, located in the second bay from the left, has a stone lintel and a 19th-century half-glazed door with an overlight, accompanied by a 20th-century stone and timber porch. To the left of the doorway is a window featuring a 17th-century square stone hood and a 20th-century three-light wood casement. There are two similar windows to the right, as well as similar windows on the first floor. The roof was rebuilt in the 19th century.
At the rear, there is a two-light window with a stone mullion and square hood on the first floor, along with a one-light window with a stone hood to the left. A 18th-century stone extension is located to the right at the rear, which has two storeys and an attic with two bays. There is also a 19th-century brick extension to the left, connected by a verandah across the main block.
Inside, the house was remodelled in the 19th century, featuring a staircase and fireplaces dating from around 1850. Stone from an outbuilding bears the date 163(7?) and the initials I.B. The house was owned by the Butler family in the 17th century.
