Description

The Hare and Hounds Public House is an early to mid-18th century building in Great Addington's Main Street. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone with a slate and pantile roof and has a distinctive L-shaped plan. The building is two storeys high, with a three-window front. The first floor features casement windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has 20th-century casements, all beneath wooden lintels, some of which have been renewed. Window shutter recesses are visible on the ground floor. A 20th-century door is located to the left of the center, also under a wooden lintel. The roof has ashlar gable parapets and brick stacks at the ridge and end. There is a 19th-century single-storey extension to the right. The rear elevation has a six-panel door, now set within a glazed porch, also under a wooden lintel. Inside, some original spine beams with run-out stops and plank doors remain.
