Description

Manor Cottage is a house dating from 1648, with significant alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. A datestone reads “RB/1648”. The house is built of squared coursed limestone, with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally, it comprised two rooms. It is a single-storey building with an attic, and has a three-window front featuring 19th-century-style casement windows with glazing bars, set beneath wooden lintels. Two attic windows are located within Lincolnshire eaves dormers. A four-panel door, positioned to the right of the centre, is sheltered by a 20th-century wooden porch. An ashlar gable parapet is present on the right side, and there are rendered stacks at the ends. A 20th-century single-storey extension is attached to the right. The right gable features a single window range, consistent with the main facade. A date is displayed on a diamond-shaped plaque in the gable apex. A one-bay extension to the rear, built in a similar style, is likely from the 19th century. The interior, which has not been inspected, is said to contain stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a matching stop-chamfered bressumer. A thatched roof was replaced in the mid-20th century with Collyweston slates.
