Description

This building, comprising numbers 19 to 21 Market Street, is a former hotel constructed around 1894 in a variation of the Jacobean style by the Kettering architect J.A. Gotch. It is built of red brick with a tiled roof. The design is characterized by five gables and polygonal chimneystacks that project above the first-floor windows. The building is three stories high and features mullioned and transomed casement windows with two lights on the upper floors. The ground floor windows are similar, with two featuring arched lights. A band runs along the first floor, and a sill band is present. Cornice moldings sit above the window lintels, and there is a moulded eaves band. The design was featured in The British Architect in August 1894. Numbers 19 to 23 Market Street form a group.
