Description

The Old Swan is a public house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made over time. It features a timber frame construction with diagonal braces and colourwashed brick infill. The ground floor of the left bay has been rebuilt in colourwashed brick. The building has half-hipped thatch roofs and a small brick chimney situated between the left bays. It is designed in an L-shape and has one and a half storeys with three bays. The windows are irregularly barred wooden types. The left bay is gabled and projects outward, containing three-light and two-light casements with segmental heads on the ground floor, a single light window to the right, and a three-light casement on the first floor. The right side has a 20th-century tiled lean-to with a door. The centre bay features a three-light casement on the ground floor and a small paired casement set in the thatch. The right bay has horizontal sliding sash windows, with two on the ground floor and one above in a gabled dormer. There is a boarded door to the left of the centre bay. A later extension, set back to the left, is made of colourwashed brick and has a half-hipped old tile roof with a 20th-century three-light wooden casement.
