Description

Low Grounds Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The front and right bay of the left side are constructed from flint with 18th-century brick dressings and gables, while the remainder is made of 19th-century brick, some of which is whitewashed. The building features old tiled roofs, with one chimney made of narrow brick that has arched recessed panels and a later brick chimney on the left. It has a double pile design, with the rear left bay likely being an extension of the original L-plan.

The farmhouse is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of two bays. It has narrow brick band courses. The front displays two gabled bays, with the left bay featuring a 5-pane sash window on the ground floor, and the right bay having a 3-light barred wooden casement. The upper storeys have paired wooden casements, with glazing bars on the first floor and segmental heads on the attic windows. There is a central boarded door with a wooden hood and a paired wooden casement window above it.

Flanking the main structure are single-storey extensions; the left extension is made of brick and has an old boarded door with vent holes and a fanlight, while the right extension is constructed from flint and brick and includes a 3-light wooden casement and a door on the left return. The rear of the farmhouse was remodelled in the early 19th century, featuring sash windows, a canted bay on the left, and a minimal pediment hood over the central flush-panelled door. A central horizontal sliding sash window provides light to the staircase. Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase with a flat moulded handrail and sturdy splat balusters.
