Description
The building is a temple located 700 meters northeast of Harleyford Manor, dating from the mid to late 18th century and possibly designed by Sir Robert Taylor. It features an ashlar facing over a brick structure with a rendered plinth. The temple is octagonal, consisting of one storey and a basement. It has a moulded cornice that breaks forward over angle columns, which are adorned with finely carved Corinthian capitals and moulded plinths. The main storey has alternating arched niches and window openings with plain surrounds, each side featuring a stone panel above. The west side includes steps leading up to a doorway that has an architrave surround and a dentil cornice. The basement contains a doorway to the south, a window to the north, and a small fireplace. The domed roof is missing, and the structure is currently derelict. It may be the temple referred to by Langley as the Temple of Friendship, which is dated 1775 on a plaque above the door, as noted in T. Langley's "History of the Hundred of Desborough," published in 1797.
