Description
The Great and Little Kimble War Memorial, dated 1920, was designed by C M Oldrid Scott. It is located on a paved area and features a Latin cross made of Doulting stone, with fleur-de-lys shaped terminals at the ends of each arm. The cross is mounted on a hexagonal shaft and plinth, which stands on a two-stepped hexagonal base, reaching approximately 2.5 metres in height.
The plinth has inset panels made of green Westmoreland stone on three sides. The front west face lists the names of eight individuals who fell in the First World War. The north face, to the left, bears the inscription: PRAISE GOD/ FOR THESE/ MEN OF KIMBLE/ WHO LAID DOWN/ THEIR LIVES/ IN THE WAR/ 1914-1918/ AND: 1939-1945. The south face, to the right of the front panel, reads: THEIR NAME/ LIVETH FOR/ EVERMORE.
Additionally, a stone panel with the names of five individuals who fell in the Second World War has been added beneath the front west-facing panel, mounted vertically against the base of the plinth.
