Description
Sheepcote Manor is a country house built in 1914 for G. Aird. The inscription "G A 1914" is visible on the building. It is constructed of red brick and timber framing in a neo-16th century style, characterised by steep old tile roofs and tall, modelled brick stacks.
The house is two storeys high and arranged in an L-shape. The garden front features three large, jettied timber-framed gables with herringbone brick infill, and oak mullioned windows, all with leading. Ornamental downpipes and a gutter are positioned across the centre at first-floor level. The ground floor centre has three French windows, each with brick arched heads supporting an upper mullion with top lights on either side. Flanking the centre are three-sided brick bays, featuring brick mullions and transoms to the windows.
The entrance front has a door sheltered by a large jettied gable at the north end, a two-storey range with tile-hanging on the upper floor to the left, and a brick stair tower in the angle of the rear range. The rear range incorporates three hipped dormers with brick surrounds, and a projecting, two-and-a-half storey gable, with tile-hanging on its upper floors.
The interior is predominantly neo-1700 in style, with a staircase featuring a heavy, moulded rail and turned balusters. A small ceiling with crude decorative plaster, potentially dating to the early 17th century, is located in a room near the front door.
