Description

The Cottage is a medieval building, with significant alterations and additions dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. It is a one-storey and attic structure built of rubble stone and timber-frame, with cruck trusses visible in the end gables and the rear wing gable. The roof is thatched. The front elevation features a door positioned right of centre, alongside a two-light casement window on the right and three similar windows on the left. Two further windows are set into the thatch. The left-hand gable retains the original cruck blade, while the right-hand gable displays a complete cruck truss, partially obscured by a large stone chimney stack. A later rear wing is timber-framed and incorporates a straight-sided cruck truss of a smaller section than the main building. Internally, there are more complete cruck trusses, along with 16th and 17th century inserted floor beams and a chimney stack.
