Description

This is a medieval house with alterations dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The right-hand portion is one storey and attic, constructed with a timber frame and painted brick infill, featuring 2-light casement windows and a modern 3-light dormer. The left-hand portion is two storeys and built of colour-washed rubble stone, with some surviving fragments of timber framing showing curved braces and projecting floor joists. This section has a single 3-light casement window on each floor. A single-storey addition is present on the left, alongside a rendered boundary wall constructed of wichter. The interior contains two cruck trusses, one in the party wall with the adjacent property at number 96, and the other partially hidden by a large chimney stack in the centre. There are also chamfered fireplace beams. The buildings at numbers 96 and 98 likely originated as a two-bay cruck hall with a jettied cross wing.
