Description

The South Gateway to St Mary's Churchyard is an 18th-century structure. It features red brick piers topped with ashlar cornices and stepped blocking courses, along with stone urns that have gadrooning and spiral fluting. The gateway includes wrought iron inner pilasters and a late 19th or early 20th-century overthrow. This gateway serves as a notable point along the main approach to the church via Church Street, which is lined with many fine listed buildings, primarily refronted in the late 18th or early 19th century. The listed buildings in St Mary's Square on the south side of Parson's Fee form a group with No 1 St Mary's Row and No 6 Pebble Lane.
