Description
No. 43 Church Lane is an early 18th century house featuring a central dummy window on the first floor, which contains a flush stone tablet carved with the initials RCA and the date 1722. The building is constructed of red and grey brickwork and has an old tiled roof with a coved cornice and a gabled casement dormer. It stands two storeys tall, with attics and a basement, and includes a brick band on the first floor. There are two double-hung sash windows set in flush wooden architraves, and the ground floor has cambered relieving arches. Access is via six steps leading up to a four-fielded panelled door, which is framed by ribbed pilasters and well-carved consoles. These consoles flank a carved frieze depicting corn sheaves and a cherub mask, supporting a coffered cornice hood. This house is part of a group that includes No. 39A, Fern Cottage, No. 39, 40A, 40, 41, 41A, 42, 42A, 43, 44, and the Christadelphian Chapel.
