Description
The Church Loft is a late 15th-century building located on the north side of High Street in West Wycombe. It features an original timber frame with later red brick nogging and an old tiled roof topped with a square wooden bell turret from the early 18th century, which carries a weather vane. The structure is two storeys high, with the first floor overhanging on five brackets and a moulded beam. The ground floor is divided by posts and brackets into three and a half bays, with the left-hand bay open to create a carriageway leading to Church Lane.
There are two doors on the ground floor and six casement windows, which are a mix of modern and restored elements, all featuring timber four-centred pointed arches. The first floor has four leaded wood mullion casements, mostly three-light, except for two-light on the right side, with some old glass present. The interior of the first floor is said to contain an open Queen post roof.
The Church Loft is part of a group that includes Nos 35 to 37, Nos 45 to 54, Nos 56 to 59, Steps House, The Plough Inn, The Apple Orchard, The Old Smithy, West Wycombe Estate Office, Rose Cottage, and Ness Cottage.
