Description

This building is a row of four flats, originally six almshouses, dating from the late 17th century and altered over time. It is constructed of vitreous brick in header bond, with red brick window surrounds featuring gauged heads. The structure has a brick plinth and a moulded stone eaves cornice, topped by a hipped old tile roof with four brick stacks that have minimal entablature tops.

The building is one storey with an attic, comprising seven irregular bays. The central gabled bay is flanked by plain brick pilasters with moulded caps and stone kneelers. The ground floor features six thickly barred three-pane sash windows. Above, there are four gabled dormers with 19th-century paired casements. The central bay has two similar casements above a pair of doors set in a single gabled porch. There are four other half-glazed doors, each with 19th-century porches that display blue and white brick patterns on the gables, wavy bargeboards, and fishscale tiles. The end walls are finished in chequer brick and include square bay windows and dormers. Originally located near a church, the almshouses were moved to their current site in the mid-18th century.
