Description
Stockgrove Park upper garden terrace and garden temple is a garden terrace and garden building constructed between 1929 and 1938 by W Curtis Green for F M Kroyer-Kielberg. It is made of red brick with stone dressings. The terrace is located on the southwest side of the house and features stone-paved paths, brick retaining walls with stone coping, and a stone balustrade leading down to the lower terrace garden and pool. The steps have two arms that descend from the terrace and a fountain-head that leads to a landing above a small circular pool, which is partially set in a stone niche. Below the landing, there is a single flight of steps with a narrow central channel for water flowing down to the pool. The temple is situated at the corner of the terrace, overlooking the park and lower terrace gardens. It has a square plan with Doric piers at the corners and a double-sloped, ogee-domed roof topped with a tall finial. The outer side of the temple features stone balustrades.
