Description

Daws Hill House is an 18th century farmhouse that was remodeled and enlarged between 1899 and 1901 following the outlines of the farm buildings for the 3rd Lord Carrington, who later became the Marquis of Lincolnshire. The ground floor of the farmhouse features a finely carved wooden chimneypiece and overmantel, likely imported, from the first half of the 18th century. In the Oak Drawing Room, which was originally a cart stable, there is panelling from Gayhurst, said to date from the time of Sir Kenelm Digby, who served as Lord Keeper to George II. The White Drawing Room, which was formerly a threshing barn with an added bay, contains ceiling panels by Angelica Kaufmann and a marble carved chimneypiece from Carrington House in Whitehall. The Cloister House Study, originally a cart novel, has wrought iron railings from the 18th century that were sourced from Carrington House. An east wing was added by Forsyth between 1929 and 1930.
