Description
The buildings at 2-5 St Mary's Square are a group of properties dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. One brick bears the date 1736. They are two storeys high with cellars and attics. Number 2 has a parapet and an old tile roof, while the remainder are cement rendered. Number 2 has sash windows set in moulded frames; the other buildings have casement windows. Numbers 2 and 3 have 19th-century four-panel doors, while numbers 4 and 5 have plain doors. Number 2 features a door hood with a dentilled cornice. The windows and doors have vermiculated stucco surrounds with keystones, except for number 2, which has plain stucco. A sash window is located on the first floor of number 3. There are five dormers, three of which are gabled. Timber framework is visible at the back of the buildings, suggesting an original timber-framed structure that was later refronted with brick and stucco. These buildings form a group with numbers 1 St Mary's Row and 6 Pebble Lane on the south side of Parson's Fee.
