Description
Turweston Manor is a house dating from around 1630, featuring three bays and two storeys. It was extended in 1910, as indicated by the rain-water heads. The building is constructed of rubble stone, with a slated front pitch and plain tiled rear and additions. The east range of the additions has coped gables and kneelers. There are end stacks and a stack between the right-hand bays, both with moulded caps and bases. The original entry, which was located in front of the stack, has been replaced by a small window. A modern entry has been added between the left-hand bays, featuring a re-used four-centred arch with moulded jambs. The stone mullioned windows include a five-light window on the ground floor and a four-light window in the left-hand bay on the first floor. The right-hand bays on the first floor have two and three-light windows with transoms, dating from the later 17th century, and there are drip-moulds present. The later ranges are similar but have ironstone dressings.
Inside, the manor retains original panelling and chimney-pieces, with one in the right-hand ground floor room dated 1631. The rear room features a chimney-piece with inlay-work on the frieze. The central room has a stone moulded four-centred arch and jambs leading to the fireplace.
