Description

Turweston House is an early 18th century small country house constructed of ashlar with a slate roof. It features stone stacks that have separate square shafts linked by a moulded cornice. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a first-floor string course, chamfered quoins, and a small coved stone cornice. The west front consists of seven bays, with the central three slightly projecting and topped with a pediment that contains a round window. There is a central glazed door framed by an architrave, with a stone cornice featuring a key block on console brackets above it. On either side of the pediment, there is one dormer window, and lead pipes and rainwater heads decorated with swags flank the central projection. The south front has four bays, including one central dormer and a conservatory in the left-hand bay. The north front also has four bays, featuring two shouldered architrave doorways with key blocks on consoles in the central bays, with the right-hand doorway being blind. The two right-hand bays are also blind and handed. To the left of the north front is a rendered range of two storeys with four bays, a first-floor string course, and three cambered arched openings on the ground floor. The fourth bay has similar sash windows on both floors. Inside, there is an early 18th century staircase with turned balusters and a closed string.
