Description

This is an 18th-century building on the south side of High Street. It is constructed of flint rubble with red brick dressings and quoins, and has an old tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, with a basement and attics. A moulded brick string course runs along the first floor level. The prominent wooden cornice features modillions with egg and tongue enrichment to the bed mould. Three modern casement dormers are visible in the roof. There are five sash windows on the first floor, set flush and without glazing bars, each with a flat arch above. Ground floor windows have segmental arches. The central entrance features an eight-panelled door set within a fielded panelled reveal and an elaborate surround of engaged Roman Ionic columns, under an entablature with a pulvinated frieze, a bracketed cornice, and an open bracketed pediment where the cornice breaks forward over the columns.
