Description

This building, comprised of numbers 21 and 21A High Street, dates to the 16th century, but was significantly altered in the late 17th or early 18th century. It is stuccoed, with chamfered quoins and a prominent modillioned cornice. The roof is hipped and covered with old tiles. The building is three storeys high and has six flush sash windows, each with an architrave frame and glazing bars. Key blocks are present on the upper floors. The ground floor is rusticated, with a central six-panelled door set beneath a voussoir head, a modillioned cornice, and a pediment, above which is a two-paned rectangular fanlight. Modern shop windows, also with cornices, flank the main entrance. It is believed that a back wing contains substantial remains of the original 16th-century structure.
